Yoga Classes
Where do you teach?

I currently teach two classes a week.  The classes are held in Milesburg, Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:45 pm and 7:00 to 8:15 pm.  All levels of students are welcome, even those who have never done yoga before.

How is your yoga class different from others?

To me, a yoga practice is much bigger than just a physical exercise.  Yes, a regular yoga practice will help to keep you in shape, become stronger and more flexible.  Sure, you'll likely feel more relaxed after class.  But, in my yoga classes there is another component that is even more important than all of those: learning how to pay attention to your body.

Throughout yoga class, I ask students to pay attention to their breath, to the sensations they feel, to their thoughts.  I ask them to notice if one side is stronger or more flexible than the other.  I ask them to notice if there are certain postures which they seem resistant to or during which their mind starts to chatter.  We take our time to enter each posture and to explore all of the little micro-movements involved.

Over time, the awareness learned begins to extend beyond class.  What may have started as becoming aware of muscles we didn't know we had will grow into becoming aware of other parts of us that we have forgotten as well.  And in that process of rediscovery, we become more whole.
